TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement) is a groundbreaking, minimally invasive procedure designed to replace a thickened aortic valve that can no longer open properly (Aortic Stenosis).

Unlike traditional open-heart surgery, which requires a large incision in the chest (sternotomy), TAVR is performed through very small openings, usually in the groin, using a catheter to reach the heart.

How TAVR Works

The procedure is often compared to placing a “stent” in an artery, but on a much larger scale for a heart valve.

  1. Access: A thin, flexible tube (catheter) is inserted into a blood vessel, typically the femoral artery in the groin.
  2. Navigation: Guided by advanced X-ray and ultrasound imaging, the cardiologist threads the catheter up to the heart and into the opening of the aortic valve.
  3. Deployment: A new, collapsible artificial valve (made of natural animal heart tissue) is tucked inside the catheter. Once in position, the new valve is expanded.
  4. Function: The new valve pushes the old, diseased valve leaflets out of the way and immediately takes over the job of regulating blood flow.

Our Specialized TAVR Services

At ILS Hospitals, we provide a comprehensive TAVR program focused on precision and patient safety:

  1. Heart Team Evaluation: A collaborative assessment by interventional cardiologists and cardiac surgeons to ensure TAVR is the best choice for you.
  2. Advanced 3D Imaging: We use high-resolution CT scans to measure your heart’s anatomy precisely, ensuring the perfect valve size selection.
  3. Minimalist Approach: We prioritize “conscious sedation” when possible, allowing patients to remain awake but relaxed, which leads to even faster recovery.
  4. Post-Procedure Rehabilitation: Tailored cardiac rehab to help you regain your strength and energy quickly.
