Vitiligo is a long-term skin condition in which pigment-producing cells, known as melanocytes, are gradually lost, resulting in white patches on different areas of the body. The condition may affect the skin, hair, and mucous membranes and can occur at any age. Although vitiligo is not contagious or life-threatening, it can significantly affect a person’s emotional well-being and self-confidence. Early evaluation helps determine the extent of pigmentation loss and supports timely treatment planning.

At ILS Hospitals, our dermatologists provide personalized care using evidence-based treatment approaches tailored to each patient’s condition, age, skin type, and extent of vitiligo. Comprehensive evaluation helps identify disease activity and develop an appropriate long-term management plan.

Treatment may include topical medications, phototherapy, oral medicines, depigmentation therapy in selected cases, or surgical procedures for suitable candidates. Our specialists also monitor disease progression and recommend therapies that encourage repigmentation while helping slow the development of new patches whenever possible.

Vitiligo therapy aims to restore skin pigmentation, stabilize disease progression, improve cosmetic appearance, and enhance overall quality of life. Early intervention often provides better treatment outcomes and helps patients manage the condition with greater confidence and realistic expectations.

Patients are encouraged to protect affected skin from excessive sun exposure, use broad-spectrum sunscreen regularly, follow prescribed treatment consistently, and attend scheduled follow-up appointments. Maintaining emotional well-being, avoiding skin injuries when possible, and discussing any changes in skin appearance with our specialists support effective long-term management and healthier skin, while encouraging consistent care, improved confidence, and better long-term treatment outcomes overall.
