Radiation Oncology
Radiation oncologists at ILS hospital treat a broad range of malignancies annually, tailoring state-of-the-art care to each patient’s specific needs. Our centre is renowned for delivering high-quality radiation therapy by combining advanced equipment with the extensive experience of our medical personnel. Our radiation oncologists are highly skilled in employing cutting-edge technologies to treat a wide spectrum of cancers, ensuring that each patient receives the best possible care. We take great care to focus radiation on malignant tumors, limiting the harm to healthy tissues and organs while increasing the effectiveness of the treatment.
The department offers care for a range of cancer types through disease-specific teams. These teams assess and treat patients with complicated cancer diagnoses by combining the knowledge of experts from different medical specialities. Each expert team collaborates closely to create individualized treatment plans to ensure that the patient receives the most appropriate and efficient care possible. We are dedicated to assisting you throughout your cancer journey, regardless of whether you are being treated for a common or complex malignancy.
Our Services :
- External Beam Radiation Therapy (EBRT): We use this noninvasive radiation therapy, in which a high-energy beam is administered to the target tumor site from outside the body. EBRT is used to treat breast, prostate, lung, and brain cancers.
- Brachytherapy (Internal Radiation Therapy): We use a radioactive material which is placed inside or close to the tumor cells or tissues. It is most widely recommended to treat prostate, cervical cancer, and several head and neck-related malignancies.
- Radiation Therapy: We use high-dose radiation that is administered directly to the tumor cells, with little or no exposure to neighbouring healthy cells.
- Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS): This is a non-surgical radiation technique used at ILS hospital in which a precise dose of radiation is delivered to the targeted area. It is commonly used against brain tumors and malformations in the blood vessels, with negligible damage to the adjacent tissues.
- Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT): This is a cutting-edge form of radiation therapy used at ILS hospitals in which extremely focused beams of radiation are delivered to cancerous cells. It is recommended for the treatment of tumors in the lungs, liver, spine, and pancreas, especially when surgery is not recommended.
- Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT): It is an advanced procedure used at our hospital in which computer-controlled linear accelerators deliver a controlled quantity of radiation to tumor cells. It helps radiation oncologists treat complex tumors with minimum exposure to healthy tissues. This procedure is ideal for head and neck cancers, prostate cancer, and others.
- Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT): Our experts use modern imaging techniques (such as CT scans or MRIs) to perform the radiation treatment with greater accuracy. IGRT permits the radiation oncologist to adjust the position of the radiation beam based on real-time images, which improves accuracy and minimizes the risk of damaging healthy tissues.
- Proton Therapy: Here, we use protons in place of X-rays. In this form of therapy, our Oncologists target a highly precise amount of protons with minimal radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues. It is effectively used in the treatment of cancers related to the pediatric population, brain tumors, and cancers near vital organs.
- Radiosensitization: Certain drugs or therapies make cancer cells more sensitive to radiation. These drugs may be used in combination with radiation therapy to improve their efficacy, especially against tumors that show resistance to conventional treatments.
- Palliative Radiation Therapy: It is utilized to reduce symptoms of advanced cancer, like pain, bleeding, or breathlessness, without the treatment of the disease. It is frequently recommended to treat conditions like bone tumor, tumors of the brain and those obstructing the airways.
- Radiation Therapy for Non-Cancerous Conditions: We utilise this procedure to treat various non-cancerous conditions, including thyroid eye disease and vascular malformations. It is also used to shrink abnormal cell growth or for pain management in non-malignant conditions.
