Psychiatry is the medical domain that is dedicated towards the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders of people who are otherwise disease free. It evaluated patients who suffer from persistent and severe mood swings, unpredictable behavior and actions, PTSD, panic attack, frightening hallucinations, self-harming, and hearing “voices.” it also includes patients suffering from long-term sadness, hopelessness, or the anxiousness, up to a point when it begins to disrupt the everyday life.
Diagnosing the presence of any psychiatric issue is very tricky as it is all in the mind. In fact, the primary signs of the same are evaluated either by family, friends, fellow colleagues or by the patient themselves. Often a detailed and compassionate counseling is needed between the patient and family with the psychiatrist to evaluate its extent.
Various treatment forms are required for the same. These include medication, psychotherapy, Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
The talk therapy, let it be one to one or group therapy, might take a few sessions to get better, or it may extend to months or even years. It aims to encourage the patient to gain will power and mitigate harmful thoughts, primarily. It is considered as the best approach among other means, for a healthy and strong mind.
Often psychiatrist prescribes oral medication and sometimes shots, for extreme cases of panic attacks, to help manage the chemical imbalance in the brain. However, regular monitoring is needed to ensure the right dosage and its effectiveness. These include Antidepressants, Antipsychotic medications, Sedatives and anxiolytics, Hypnotics, Mood stabilizers, and Stimulants etc.
It is a nerve stimulation mechanism of transmitting electric current to the brain. It is mostly used, solely to treat the severe depression.
