Soft tissue tumor

Soft tissue tumor excision is a surgical procedure to remove an abnormal growth arising from soft tissues such as fat, muscle, connective tissue, or tissues beneath the skin. It is also to identify if the growth is benign or cancerous, relieve symptoms such as pain or discomfort, or address a mass that is increasing in size.

Before surgery, the surgeon evaluates the growth through a physical examination and may recommend imaging tests such as ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI to assess its size, location, and extent into surrounding tissues. Proper evaluation helps the surgical team plan the procedure and determine the most appropriate treatment approach.

The surgery is performed under local, regional, or general anaesthesia. The surgeon makes an incision over the affected area, and the tumor is carefully removed while preserving the nearby tissues. The wound is then closed with sutures, covered with a dressing, and the removed tissue is sent for laboratory examination.

Post-surgery, the healthcare professionals focus on healing the wound and observing the operated area to support optimal recovery. Mild swelling, bruising, or discomfort may occur during the initial healing period. Patients are advised to adhere to wound care instructions, attend follow-up appointments, and refrain from excessive strain on the treated area to promote better wound healing.

Soft tissue tumor excision provides both treatment and valuable diagnostic information. Careful assessment, precise removal of the growth, and appropriate post-operative care contribute to successful treatment, healing, and overall recover.
