Skin flap rotation is a reconstructive surgical procedure recommended after trauma, tumor removal, or complex wounds. The procedure repairs injuries, wounds, or tissue defects by moving healthy skin from a nearby area while preserving its blood supply and the appearance and function of the affected area. In some cases, early reconstruction may reduce the risk of wound-related complications.

The procedure is performed under appropriate anaesthesia. During surgery, to cover the wound, the surgeon moves a section of healthy skin and the tissue beneath it from a nearby area while preserving its natural blood supply. Once the skin is in place, it is secured, and the area from where it was taken is also closed.
Following surgery, patients are advised to protect the reconstructed area from excessive pressure or movement and follow the wound care instructions provided by their treating team. During follow-up visits, both the flap and donor site are examined to assess blood supply, tissue viability, and overall recovery. They are advised to promptly report symptoms such as increased pain, swelling, wound discharge, changes in the color of the flap, or fever, to prevent and evaluate complications.
